The first Adopt-A-Highway roadside trash pick-up of 2010 will take place on Saturday, April 17th. The SPY’s pick-up trash along M-43 for a mile in each direction from the blinker light on the corner in Sunfield. The spring pick-up nets the largest amount of trash, since it has been building up all winter. So, the need for lots of help is great. Anyone and everyone is invited to turn out at the Sunfield IGA parking lot at 9 AM. It will take about an hour of your time, but it is well worth the effort. It really gets the area spiffed up. Children no younger than 12 are welcome to participate as well. So what do you say? Lets have a BIG turnout for this first pick-up and get things looking good! For further information call our project chairman, Scott McWhorter at 566-7737. Hope to see you there!

Thought #1: The only people who enjoy listening to your troubles are lawyers and doctors. They get paid for it.

A BIG Sunfield Area SPY’s salutation goes out to our newest members, Derek & Dana Desgranges. Welcome aboard! We’re glad to have you with us!

Andy Woodman’s Sports Trivia Question-Of-The-Week: Who was the last NCAA Division I men’s basketball team to go undefeated and win a national title? (Answer later in this column)

The next meeting of the Sunfield Area Sponsors of Programs for Youth (SPY’s) will take place on Tuesday, April 20th---starting at 7 PM---at the Sunfield District Library. Guests are always welcome!

Thought #2: The anti aging ad that I would like to see is a baby covered in cream saying, “Ah, I’ve used too much!”

The “Sports Trivia Question Just For ‘Smarty-Pants’ Mac Cready Question-Of-The-Week: What Major League Baseball player played on five World-Series winning teams in his first five years in baseball---Was it Gil Hodges; Yogi Berra; Jerry Coleman; Jimmy Z; or Joe DiMaggio? (Answer later in this column)

Swede’s Groaner Corner: The other day Chef Rob-o was telling me about his friend being a procrastinator. He’s afraid of Saturday the 14th.

“Understanding New-Age Definitions by Dr. Jill VanAntwerp, (Professor of English at Grand Valley State College). Today’s word is “Control” (kon-trol’). It’s New-Age Definition---A short, ugly inmate.

Didja Know Department: Did you know Michigan is unique in a lot of ways, and here are two---We’re the only state that virtually prohibits lawsuits against drug makers if the drug was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. And, we’re also the only state that guarantees 100 percent of a person’s injuries in an auto crash be covered. Democrats are trying to throw out the former and Republicans are trying to throw out the latter. Both parties have made little progress in their efforts.

A certain local celebrity, that I will refer to as “Mrs. Robinson”, is known for having a lead foot while driving. The other day she was out with one of her good buddies, “Queen #6”, when a state trooper pulled her over. Hoping to get off with a warning, Mrs. Robinson tried to appear shocked when the trooper walked up to the car. “I have never been stopped like this before,” she told the officer. “What do they usually do, ma’am,” he asked, “shoot the tires out?”

Trivia Question-Of-The-Week Answer: It is the motto of the Possum Lodge from the Red Green television show. “Quando omni flunkus moritati” is pseudo-Latin for “When all else fails, play dead”. This was often followed by “The Man’s Prayer”---“I‘m a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess.”

Andy Woodman’s Sports Trivia Question-Of-The-Week Answer: Indiana won the title in 1976 finishing with a 32-0 record.

The “Sports Trivia Question Just For ‘Smarty-Pants’ Mac Cready Question-Of-The-Week Answer: It was Jerry Coleman, who was the second baseman for the New York Yankees. He was on five world-series winning teams in his first five years in the majors, beginning in 1949.
