Sunfield Area SPY's Report---1/7/10

SUNFIELD AREA SPY'S REPORT

Highlights From Our Annual Meeting

We had over 60 people in attendance at this year’s Sunfield Area SPY’s Annual Meeting of the Membership held at Centennial Acres. After a brief social period where various and sundry organizational tasks were attended to, SPY President Darin Weller formally opened the evening. After the invocation, a fine meal prepared by the Centennial Acres staff was enjoyed. Annual business reports were then given. Our Secretary, John Fisher gave the "Year In Review" report of all of the SPY activities in 2009. Then, Bill Weller gave the Treasurer's report, complete with an update on all accounts and earmarked funds.

Special guests in attendance, in addition to our Corporate and Platinum Sponsors, were Erv & Laurie Lubitz, Pat & Linda Patton, Rob Piercefield, and Brad & Angie Moorman

There were some reminders given of upcoming events. They consisted of:

* Sam Coan gave a call for helpers for the next Texas Hold ‘Em event that will take place
March 11 thru 14, 2010.

* Buddy Collins gave reminder concerning the February 6th. Wild Game Dinner.

* Craig Cappon “heads-up” about the upcoming SPY's Euchre Tournament on February 13th.

Acknowledgment of our various project and event chairmen followed. We then gave some well
Deserved recognition to our fine cadre` of Corporate and Platinum Sponsors for 2009. Details
on these acknowledgements will be covered in the weeks ahead.

The next order of business was to offer formal recognition to members of the SPY organization, as well as the community at large, for their significant contributions this past year. Details on these acknowledgements will be covered individually in the weeks ahead as well.

The big 50/50 drawing winner was Brian Harag. Brian pocketed $158 in loot. Door prize
drawing winners for the evening were:
LouAnn Harag
Steve Spitzley
Brian Harag
Rob Piercefield
Jake Bosworth
Wendel Peabody
Angela Coan
Bruce Kauffman
Bob Bumgardner (twice)
Crystal Peabody
Marv Hengesbach
Vicky DeRosa (twice)
Rosie Best
Coral Fish
Pat Vezino
Mark Woodman

The tradition of the end of the meeting prize drawings has become rather popular. The most legendary part involves a ceramic piece known as“ Myrtle The Traveling Fertile Turtle”. The reason Myrtle is a legend at the annual meeting, is that she shows up in the drawings every year. Myrtle got her full name a few years back when Kathy Hengesbach was a lucky drawing winner and got to take Myrtle home. When she took it into her office, a short time later, three of the women that worked there immediately became pregnant! Over the following seven years IN A ROW, other “owners” have experienced the same phenomenon---this past year being no exception. This year, Steve Spitzley took possession of Myrtle. It will be interesting to see what happens.

In the “Yankee Swap” format we use in the door prize drawing, where you can either select a wrapped package from the gift table or take a gift away from someone who picked before you and has something you like, we had quite a “take-away” session take place. Each year Patti Weller makes a real nice afghan for the event. It is a highly coveted item. This year Rob Piercefield picked the package off the table that turned out to be Patti’s afghan. It then went through seven other “owners” before Mark Woodman, with the last ticket drawn, took final possession.

Officer elections were then held. The following is the line-up of SPY officers for 2010:

President Darin Weller
Vice President Barry Vezino
Treasurer Bill Weller
Secretary John Fisher
Membership Director Craig Mulholland
Promotions Director Craig Cappon
Sgt.-At-Arms Jake Bosworth
Director-At-Large Buddy Collins
Directors Angela Coan Juaise Peabody
Sandy Fisher Rosie Best

All in all, the Annual Meeting was a wonderful event. Much well-deserved recognition was given and appreciation shown.
