Sunfield Area SPY's Report---12/17/09
Vandals Are At It Again!
We are sorry to report that our local vandals are on the prowl again. This time they spray-painted buildings along the south side Main Street alley. What is really aggravating is that one of the buildings vandalized was the out building at the GAR Hall. This was right after all of the efforts they have gone through to raise the money and volunteer labor to have it and the Hall painted. (The GAR Hall is a designated historic site, the only one of it’s kind in the entire state!) This is shameful!

+ The turnout of helpers last Saturday for the Sunfield area distribution of the Lakewood Community Council’s Christmas Baskets was the lowest one we have ever had. We only had three crews---six people show up. Last year we had 22 people turn out to help for the Sunfield area distribution. Quite a difference! But, the job got done. A sincere salute of appreciation goes out to Mark Hanna; Bill Meyers; Buddy & Jari Collins; and John & Sandra Fisher. Thank you!!!

+ Hey SPY's, year 2010 dues are due! See our treasurer Bill Weller before he sees you!
+ Buddy “Just Call Me Dumb-Ass” Collins has a new truck. He doesn’t like the interior design at all! In fact he would like to hunt down the engineer responsible and give him or her what for! Why the wrath you ask? Well now, it seems that the automatic door lock button is located at a place on the driver’s side door where he is used to putting his hand when he got out of his old truck. The result---he has locked himself out of his truck a number of times---(soon to reach double digits I’m told)---with the keys inside no less. Thanks for the report Agent SS-14.
+ Reminder---The Sunfield Area Sponsors of Programs for Youth will be holding their "Annual Meeting of the Membership" on Saturday, January 9, 2010. + The other day Little Spitz was sitting on the toilet. Momma Spitz thought he had been in there too long, so she went to see what’s up. She found Little Spitz sitting on the toilet reading a book. But every 10 seconds or so he would put the book down, grip on the toilet seat with his left hand, and hit himself on top of the head with his right hand. Momma Spitz asked, “Little Spitz, are you all right? You’ve been in here for a while.” Little Spitz replied, “I’m fine mommy. I just haven’t gone doody yet.” Momma then asks, “Why are you hitting yourself on the head?” Little Spitz gave her a sideways look and says, “It works for catsup.”

+ The “Sports Trivia Question Just For ‘Smarty-Pants’ Mac Cready Question-Of-The-Week Answer: The 1934 National Football League Championship Game, also known as “The Sneakers Game”, was played at the Polo Grounds in New York City on December 9, 1934. It was the second annual NFL championship game. A freezing rain the night before the game froze the playing field. After one of the Giants’ players made a remark suggesting that sneakers would provide better footing on the frozen playing surface, head coach Steve Owen sent equipment manager Abe Cohen to purchase sneakers. Cohen was unable to find an open sports equipment store and arrived at half time with eight pairs of sneakers borrowed from the Manhattan College’s basketball team. The Giants started the game wearing their regular cleats, but trailed 13-3 midway through the third quarter. So it was decided to switch out of the cleats for the sneakers. The game ended with the Giants winning 30-13. Many of the participants have been interviewed since the game took place, most notably Bronko Nagurki of the Bears and Mel Hein of the Giants. Generally, players from both sides have attributed the Giants' second half dominance to their selection of footwear.
